Johansson to skip Sweden's Davis Cup series because he's not match ready

STOCKHOLM, Sweden — Joachim Johansson won't play for Sweden in the Davis Cup against Israel next month because he's still rusty.

"My shoulder is fine, but none of my matches went to three sets in an exhibition in Adelaide (last month)," Johansson told the Svenska Dagbladet newspaper Thursday. "I must feel that I can handle such matches before playing five sets."

Johansson, 26, a former top-10 player, retired last February. He came back in October, losing to David Nalbandian at the Stockholm Open in only his second match of the year.

Sweden hosts Israel on March 6-8 in Malmo in the best-of-five series.
